Local, state police say Super Bowl may have led to drunk driving

On Behalf of | Feb 16, 2021 | Drunk Driving

Recently, people across the country gathered together to take in the biggest football game of the year. These celebrations are generally fun events filled with entertainment, food and alcohol. Unfortunately, they may also lead to an arrest for drunk driving. Local law enforcement units here in Maryland expressed that their officers would be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers after the Super Bowl, and while results of these efforts are not yet clear, a significant number of people may now be dealing with the aftereffects of a DUI arrest.

A DUI may end the party

State and local police units reported that they intended to increase patrols for impaired driving. This included not just those drivers who may have consumed alcohol, but who may have consumed drugs, such as marijuana, as well. They warned that even prescription drugs may cause impairment that would inhibit a person’s ability to operate a motor vehicle. Any consumption of these substances, or a combination of these substances, could lead to a person being arrested for a DUI.

Officials say that the consequences of a DUI arrest may severely impact a person’s life. Potential punishment includes a jail sentence, high fines, the revocation of one’s license and more. Those who attended Super Bowl parties were reminded to moderate their consumption of any substances that may cause impairment, use rideshare options for transportation and look out for one another.

A DUI may upend an accused person’s life

These increased patrol efforts could have the unintended consequence of unnecessarily charging someone with drunk driving. No matter the circumstances, every person in this country is entitled to criminal defense against any allegations. Those here in Maryland facing a DUI charge that could irreparably harm their life have every right to consult an experienced criminal defense attorney to ensure that they are treated fairly within the parameters of the judicial system.
