2 people hit by car, man charged with drunk driving

On Behalf of | Aug 5, 2020 | Drunk Driving

It’s a common part of life for many adults to responsibly enjoy alcohol. However, driving after consuming alcohol could present a problem if the person is pulled over by police. Some people may not realize they are legally intoxicated even if they feel fine to drive, or they may fall victim to faulty testing equipment that erroneously indicates they are drunk. Either way, a charge of drunk driving can have severe consequences on their future. A recent DUI arrest here in Maryland could present just that problem for one man, who could face additional charges for allegedly hitting two people.

Authorities say that the accident happened on a recent morning on the side of I-695. Two people were apparently on the side of the road attempting to change a flat tire on a vehicle. Police claim that a man driving a passenger vehicle veered onto the left shoulder of the road and struck the two people and their two vehicles. One of the cars that was hit got pushed into the roadway as a result of the impact, according to police.

The two victims had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The nature of their injuries and their current conditions are unknown. The man driving the passenger vehicle accused of causing the crash has been charged with drunk driving. Police say they have not concluded their investigation, so it is possible the man could be facing additional charges.

Even if drunk driving is the only charge he receives, it is serious enough that a conviction could drastically change his life. People convicted of DUI here in Maryland could lose their license, have to pay fines or even serve time in jail. It is imperative that they understand the risks so they can adequately prepare their strategy for criminal defense. One of the best ways to accomplish that is by working with an experienced defense attorney to ensure they receive fair treatment from the criminal justice system.
