Many people facing criminal charges simply think that if they accept punishment, they will be able to get on with their lives after paying their debt to society. Unfortunately, even when conviction for a crime is justified, there is no question that it can have a significant and negative impact on a person’s future even after his or her sentence has been served. They will want to consider how they may handle their criminal defense in order to give them the best chance at a favorable outcome. This is what one man here in Maryland may need to do after police arrested him for drunk driving, claiming that he caused more than one hit-and-run car accident.

Police say that they received a call for a hit-and-run collision just before noon on a recent weekday. They arrived at the state route and say that the man in question hit a guardrail and a semi-truck before driving off. As law enforcement tried to pull him over, they allege that he hit two more vehicle before stopping his sedan.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but has since been arrested by police. Officers claim that the man had heroin in his car and have charged him with numerous offenses, including driving while intoxicated, drug possession and negligent driving. Police say that no one else was injured in the entire incident and their investigation remains open for the time being.

The multiple charges against this man are serious, which is why he and those like him need to think about their strategy for criminal defense. Conviction could not only mean prison time, but fines, probation, and surrendering one’s driver’s license. An attorney here in Maryland with experience in handing criminal defense related to drunk driving may be the best way for an accused person to receive fair treatment from the criminal justice system.
