Staying away from the eyes of the police is necessary in some cases. If you are partaking in activities related to drug sales, staying away from situations that might lead to law enforcement officers suspecting your activities is usually a good idea. For two Maryland men, a simple traffic stop led to drug charges.
The men were arrested after the 1998 Ford Crown Victoria they were in was stopped for a seat belt violation. The officer reported smelling a strong marijuana odor and asked the passenger to step out of the car. The man then gave the officer a false name.
Neither of the men had any identification. The driver of the vehicle tried to swallow a bag of drugs, but it was too large. The contents of the bag were rock-like and white. He began having seizures after refusing to spit the bag out. He was taken to Meritus Medical Center, where doctors recovered the plastic bag.
Officers in this incident allegedly recovered a half-pound of marijuana, 10.6 grams of heroin and 16.2 grams of crack cocaine. The also recovered digital scales, $941 in cash, packaging materials and the vehicle.
The men were charged with intent to distribute marijuana, crack cocaine and heroin. The driver has an $85,000 bond but is also detained on a possible parole violation warrant. The passenger has a $300,000 bond but is being held without bond for violating probation.
