Battling accusations of narcissism and domestic violence

Accusations of narcissism can make domestic violence cases difficult. This mental health condition causes a person to twist around situations to make it seem as though they are never wrong. Individuals who are truly narcissistic won't accept the blame for anything and always seem to have a reason to blame someone else.

A person who is being portrayed as a narcissist in a domestic violence case might have an uphill battle trying to show that they aren't the person the other side is trying to make them out to be. This is because putting up a defense may be construed as being part of the narcissistic personality disorder. Still, you can't just sit back and not do anything against these serious charges.

Just to be clear, domestic violence isn't always a component of a relationship with a narcissistic person. Instead, it is a wholly different matter. Trying to differentiate between these might be beneficial when you're facing a domestic violence charge. You'll need to show that you didn't do the abusive behaviors of which you're accused. This can be a challenge since incidents usually take place in an intimate setting without witnesses. Still, the evidence might help you in this regard.

You may not have to show that you aren't narcissistic, but there is a chance that you'll have to undergo a mental health evaluation to determine what's going on. This is often the case if there is a child custody case in which the safety of the children is being called into question.

Remember, you need to act quickly if you're charged with domestic violence. A conviction on this charge can have negative impacts throughout your life.
